Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit — his actions, his gifts, and his biddings — in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of confirmands. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1309)

Parents, your participation is not only encouraged, but necessary and precisely what you promised on the day of your child’s Baptism. Your children rely on you to display for them what it means to be a disciple of Christ. We presume that you are already attending Sunday Mass, spending time in daily prayer, and celebrating sacramental Confession because if you didn’t already have that relationship with Christ, why would it be so important to you that your child receive Confirmation, to deepen their relationship with Jesus? This is a beautiful time for you, as Catholic parents, to connect with your children in a whole new way and we are here to help with that! This is why we will have a special “parents only” session facilitated by our adult faith formation team.
The Archdiocese of Baltimore lowers the age of Confirmation Preparation to better support families in the journey of faith. Over the next several years, St. Ursula will transition to confirming children at the age of 9 years.
(roughly 4th grade).
